Alfreda James was born on July 16, 1960 in Wilcox County, Alabama to the parents of Arma Jaye and Mille Lee James, both preceded her in death. She departed this earthly life on January 3, 2021. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Dortch and a sister, Sharon D. James.
Alfreda resided in Atmore, Alabama and was a member of Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church. In 1997 she moved to Michigan City, Indiana where she became a caretaker for special needs adults. In 2006, she moved to Birmingham where she was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church - Pratt City, Birmingham, Alabama, Rev. Dr. Collins Pettaway, Pastor, where she was a faithful member and served with the Number one Usher Board Ministry, a member of the Missionary Society and a member of the F.L. Callen Sunday School Class.
Alfreda served cheerfully on various committees and was always ready to lend her assistance where needed."
She attended Escambia County High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1980.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sister Marsella James and bother Frederick James both of tmore, AL; two uncles, Peter (Elizabeth) Dortch of Washington, DC, and Alvin Dortch of Montgomery, AL; two aunts, Mary Perry and Sharon Mitchell both of Cleveland OH; a long time friend of over 40 years, Mary “BayBay” Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
